THE CLINIC:
The freestyle World Champion Dieter van der Eyken offers 4 days of coaching out of a 6-day window with final dates being decided on the forecast with a fixed introduction day on the first day of the clinic. This to go through theory, meet everyone from the group & set goals for the week ahead.
If you are able to sails comfortable in the footstraps. Waterstart without any problem, getting upwind & downwind without problems, and being able to gybe then these clinics are suited for you!
WHERE WILL THE FOCUS BE ON:
JAN.: General sailing control & first time sailing in the waves
With general a bit more moderate winds than Feb. & March. This is why this month clinics will be more focused on sailing on the open sea for the first time. You will learn everything from getting through the waves, improve your stance to go faster upwind & downwind as well as improving more basic skills as jibing, tacking, and jump control.
It speaks for itself more high-end coaching will also be done if your goals are higher than these as Dieter will be able to improve your skills also when you are already a higher level sailor.
FEB. : First time sailing in the wave & Improver Wave sailor master class
In February in general the winds get stronger & the waves improve. With dates around the low tide participating in these clinics will be still possible even if you don’t have any experience on the sea yet but can sail well up and down on the lake, have no problem keeping heights, water starting & doing planning jibes.
Are you already a more experienced wave sailor this will also be a good time to improve and get into jumps like forwards & back loops or improve your wave riding.
MARCH: First time sailing in the wave & Improver Wave sailor master class
*ADVANCED COACHING WEEK 08/03 – 13/03
The first week of March is aimed at wave sailors who want to improve their skills to the next level. Are you sailing on the sea regularly and want to step up both your riding & jumping level than this week is perfect for you.
With the tides also allowing us to sail the Worldcup spot El Cabezo there will be a great opportunity to learn both high-end moves and learning those first rails to rail wave riders.
You don’t have any experience yet with sailing on the sea, then the other dates later in the month will fit you better.
*Second week: 22/03 – 27/03 The same setup as the February coaching, low tides allow both participants for first-time wave sailing as well as the more experienced riders.
HOW DOES A COACHING WEEK LOOK LIKE:
1ST DAY: Introduction day + group sailing session.
Everyone meets together at the Surfhub around 10.30 to get an introduction of the spot, a look at the forecast & determine the goals of the week. There will be a short theory lesson followed by a group sailing session to get a feeling for everyone’s level & adjust goals where needed. First pointers will be given & notice points for the following day will be given.
In case of no wind on the first day, the afternoon will be free & the group sailing lesson will be moved to the next day.
The 2/3 & 4th day: coaching on & off the water.
In general, on the windy days, we will be doing max. 2 sessions on the water each day from roughly 1,5 hours/2 hours each. This very much depending on the conditions & how participants feel like.
During at least 1 of the 2 sessions I will be filming from the beach (most likely the first one) & giving signals to come to the beach and give a quick debriefing/feedback on the sailing.
At midday, we will do a quick video analysis followed by a second session where I will in most cases join on the water and in some cases do a little bit extra filming. In the evening we will run through all the footage & set up goals for the following day.
